As the China LPGA Tour season getsready to begin its fourth season Thursday with the start of theBeijing Orient Pearl Challenge, it will do so with the return ofZhang Na, one of the greatest players the country has produced todate. Following a difficult couple of years with a reoccurring backinjury, the Beijing native was out most of 2011 voluntarily as shewas pregnant with her first child. After giving birth to a boy inJanuary and with her back as good as it going to be, Zhang is nowlooking to return to the form that saw her capture four wins on theJapan Tour in 2007. "The Beijing Pearl Challenge is my first tournament start in myreturn to golf, so I won't push myself a lot. I'll stay relaxed andjust try my best," said Zhang Wednesday, adding she would beplaying on the eight-tournament CLPGA Tour this year with the goalof winning back her Japan Tour card during the second stage ofqualifying school in October. "But the golf competition environment has changed a lot comparedwith one year ago. The competition is tougher and there are moreexcellent players on the China LPGA Tour, they are more mature andexperienced." With her son born January 10, Zhang said her post-pregnancyrecovery was fairly swift. She was swinging a club three monthslater and shot 80 in her first round back, followed by a 75. "Anyway, since I accomplished one of the goals of my life, my focuscan now return to my golf career. It's unfinished. I hope that Ican go back to Japan and continue to have success over there. Iplan to play one JLPGA event in September and try for the Q-schoolthe following month. This is a long year, but I've had a good rest.. Now I am OK and can play without pain in my back." With the RMB500,000, 54-hole Beijing Pearl Challenge serving as theTour's Overseas Qualifying Tournament, 30 players are in the fieldfrom South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Chinese Taipei and the USA,among others, looking to secure their CLPGA Tour card for the year.
