The much awaited CLT20 (Champions League Twenty20) commences today at the PCA Stadium, Mohali with the Qualifier matches. With a total of 12 teams participating, 2 will be eliminated as the Qualifier stage concludes. The main phase of CLT20 will take off from September 22. Here's a brief about Champions League Twenty20: A collective initiative of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Cricket Australia and Cricket South Africa, Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) brings together the finest domestic clubs from across the world. The inaugural season of CLT20 held in October 2009 in India. It featured 12 teams from seven nations. The 2010 season of CLT20 moved to South Africa featuring 10 sides from six nations. The year 2011 witnessed CLT20 tickets returning to India and in 2012, CLT20 happened in Johannesburg, South Africa. Each year saw a winner emerging at the end of the CLT20 tournament. New South Wales Blues were the debut winners of the esteemed CLT20 followed by Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians and Sydney Sixers, respectively every year. The 2013 season of CLT20 is once again back on the soils of India. This time a total of 10 teams will compete against each other to take home the magnificent CLT20 trophy. The 2013 season of CLT20 starts today i.e. September 17, 2013 and will come to a close with the final match scheduled for October 6, 2013. Eight teams – three IPL teams, including 2011 CLT20 champions Mumbai Indians, two teams each from South Africa, Australia and Trinidad & Tobago – will go straight into the main tournament. Four teams – one each from Sri Lanka, New Zealand, India and Pakistan – will compete in the pre-tournament Qualifiers of which the top two will enter the league phase.
