Golf Carts vs. Golf Cars

Automotive,Sports,Recreation & Leisure
Just like in golf, one little “t” can make all the difference—well, depending on who you ask. If you’re in the market for a golf something, you might find yourself stumbling across the border of two camps: The golf carts and the golf cars. Oftentimes, the terms are used interchangeable, and it just depends on the manufacturer, retailer or even your next door neighbor who insists dropping the “t” turns the machine into something more than a device for zipping around the links. Instead of getting hung up on terminology, ask yourself just what the machine will be used for and you’ll be on the fast track to the right investment.

Most people know what a golf cart is—it’s what you normally see around the range whisking golfers from distant hole to the club’s bar. Some people say that golf cars are larger, perhaps with a full refreshment stand in the back or built to carry eight people. However, all you really need to know is that neither a golf cart nor a golf car are regulated solely to a course. They can be used at sprawling retirement homes, apartment communities and even on college campuses.

Carting Just About Anything

While there’s no Oxford-approved definition separating the two terms, most people consider a golf cart a machine that holds four people and comes equipped with a cargo or club carrier. This isn’t always the case—golf carts can seat many more people, such as with the Villager 8 which features a fold-down seat. This heavy duty multi-tasker can be called anything you like, but it can carry the most people and is a popular choice for airport transportation services (or anywhere else more seats are necessary).

How do you know how many seats you need? Well, when you know, you know. Maybe you’re in the market for a utility car to carry lumber or other heavy supplies. Maybe you simply want a relaxing ride on your weekly golfing expeditions that you never miss, and perhaps a quality radio or heater. From taking on the hills and crests of the average course to taking care of business at a retirement community, there’s a car(t) for everyone.

The Right Tools

Not only do these machines come in all shapes and sizes, but they also tout a variety of features—and they’re certainly not just for golfers. The Precedent 4-passegner is a club vehicle complete with a roof, and with plenty of durability and high-quality design. Alternatively, the Carryall Turf 2 is a turf machine that can carry up to 1,200 pounds, perfect for landscapers and maintenance crews.

If you have a really big job to do, a utility vehicle like the XRT1550 IntelliTach is fully hydraulic with a tool attachment system, so it’s truly an all-in-one vehicle. It’s a forklift, bucket, blade, broom, lawn tractor and 4x4 all in one compact yet comfortable golf car. It carries up to 500 pounds with an extra 800 available in the bed box.

What’s in a name? All kinds of things, no matter what you’d like to call it, be it a cart or car. Need a little of this and a little of that? That’s where a custom machine steps up to the plate, fulfilling your every wish whether it’s a built-in bar or a few extra tool gadgets.

For all things golf cart or golf car (and more) see Intermountain Golf Cars.
