Corporate social responsibility denotes engraining self-regulation practices into business model often in compliance with ethical standards, laws and international norms directed towards achieving greater good by implementing socially responsible plans. It is an effort to make corporate more responsible towards the planet and society and contribute towards achieving sustainable growth path of economic development. Corporate social responsibility has taken many shapes and forms over the years mostly through volunteer and partnership projects with non government organizations with only one objective, i.e. to achieve human development to pave the road for sustainability in the future. CSR activities are a multi dimensional approach comprising economic growth, social development, and environmental protection; leading towards the goal of achieving self sustainability through individual and collective development of society – instilling values, principal and lifestyle required for progressing on the road of self-sustainability. It gives us great satisfaction that there are corporate which are making serious efforts towards making a difference in the society. They need encouragement and support of the government and society in achieving greater objective. Good and supportive policies can work as catalyst for corporations embracing ideas of socially responsible plans for production and development. From lesson of self-sufficiency by Thoreau to Gandhian economy, all strived at establishing an interdependent yet self-reliant ecology that can survive by its own where each member of the society exploits his capacities to the fullest and becomes a complete unit on his own. None of us are living in an island. There are invisible dots that connect us to a greater cosmic pattern making us responsible for returning a part, at least, of what we take from it. In an effort to grow bigger and better we have already set a wheel in motion that can’t be reversed – increasingly losing control of our environment and of the ecosystem that we live in. as a community it is our responsibility to behave and act responsibly towards sustaining the means that are essential for our survival. In an effort we can draw inspiration and ideas from self-sustaining communities that are from ages using responsible methods for preserving their means. When a disaster strikes it disrupts ecological balance causing damage to vegetation, livestock, human lives and resources. There is a need of urgency in restoring the balance back by rendering sustainability support to those affected by the calamity.
