After posting her first win in 12years at last month's Beijing Pearl Challenge, Lu Yuexia has atheory that astrology may have played a role in the victory. "You know, I was born in the Year of Dragon, and this year isDragon's Year. My last win is in 2000, which is also the DragonYear, so I feel kind of lucky in this animal year," said theGuangdong native after her practice round Wednesday prior to thestart of 500,000 yuan (some 78,500 US dollars) Orient ShanghaiClassic slated for June 7 to 9. Following a week off to savor her first-hole playoff victory overJapan's Miho Mori, the 35-year-old said not much has changed sinceher victory. After celebratory dinners with family, friends andclients in her home base of Beijing, she was soon back to workpreparing for the second leg of the China LPGA Tour season. "After I won, I felt at peace. This is my character," Lu said. "Ifthere were any changes, I think it's all about my confidence. Myconfidence became much stronger. Now I didn't consider that thetrophy is too far away from me. I felt that I had a chance outthere if I could limit my mistakes," said the winner of lastmonth's Beijing Pearl Challenge. Among those lamenting mistakes in Beijing was Zhang Na. The Chineseveteran appeared on course to be joining the playoff with Lu andMori until getting derailed by a double-bogey seven on the finalhole to finish two strokes off the pace. Despite the late blow-up, the tournament marked a strongperformance by the Beijing native who was returning to competitiveplay after giving birth to her first child in January. Prior to thearrival her son, back troubles had kept her out of action for muchof the past two years. "It's a pity I lost in such an ugly way in Beijing. Entering thelast hole, I saw that I was co-leader. At that time, I becameaggressive which I shouldn't be. I wanted to make a birdie and winstraight without a playoff. But top-10 is my goal before thetournament, so it's a good result for me anyway." The 30-year-old Zhang, a four-time winner on the Japan Tour, saidshe had drawn inspiration from Lu's win, calling her "a dark horse"who never gave up on her dream. "I think this week the tournament is also open. Everyone can win.At the end of day, there could be another dark horse," she said."I'm not in position to say I can win certainly. My conditionsaren't steady and in control. My goal is top-five, but you neverknow in this fickle game." With the CLPGA now in its fourth season, Lu added the 6,342-yard,par-72 Orient (Shanghai) Sports and Country Club course wouldn'tfavor anyone as most of the field was very familiar with thelayout. "The key shots out there are approach shots. Now the greens arehard, but not fast. I thought officials must make them fasterbefore the tournament. Everyone has a chance here. Whether you area long hitter or short hitter, it's all about your consistency,"said Lu.
