here">Smartphones are hand held devices designed to make our life easier, yet when it comes to choosing the best smartphone it can become very difficult. There are so many different ones available as well as different operating systems to choose from that shopping for one the fulfils all your needs can be a complicated process. It is important to find the best smartphone to meet your needs, especially if you are going to be tied to it the next two years. So here are some tips to choose the best smartphone. Five Tips for Choosing the Best Smartphone 1. Why do you need it? Having a smartphone can be expensive not only do you have calls and text options to think about but there is also a range of data plans to choose from too. You need to think about what you will be using it for. Are you ultimately buying a phone with the ability to stay up to date with emails, Facebook and twitter? Then you may be better off getting a light data plan. If you want to do some serious downloading of games music and movies from your phone then you may want to get a heavier data usage plan. 2. How much have you got to spend? Many communications advisors offer tempting deals when it comes to smartphones, for example get a phone free on a monthly plan. There is no such thing as a free lunch or for that matter a free phone. Check out how much it will cost you to buy the phone out right and the cost of a ‘usage only plan’ versus being locked into a contract for two years. For example some plans will give you a free Smartphone and charge you $100 per month on a two year plan (that’s $2400 over two years). The phone itself may only cost you $500 and you can get a similar usage plan for $40 per month which works out at $1460 over a two year period, a saving of nearly $1000. 3. Do some research into the operating systems The operating system is the platform on which all the programs and phone apps run and they are far from equal. They all have their own strengths and weaknesses. Here are the four most common operating systems • iOS currently Apple has the most apps and the largest app store in the world. But its major weakness is that it only works on Apple iPhones. • Android – Android is right on Apples tail when it comes to apps and will soon be equal, the good thing about Android is that it is available on a number of different phones making your choice less restrictive. • Research in Motion – Is Blackberry’s operating system. If Apps are your thing then definitely avoid a Blackberry they only have around 60,000 apps vs. Apple and Androids 500,000+. Where Blackberry has the edge is in the email web browsing space. • Microsoft Windows – Again not the ideal choice for app fans, however if you need to do work on your phone such as browsing documents or spread sheets during your daily commute then this is the system for you. Play with the different phones you are considering, use it for the tasks you intend to use if for to make sure it has all the capabilities you require. 4. Size Smartphones vary in size. The smallest is the iPhone with a 4in screen. The largest is the Samsung Note 2 with a screen size of 5.5 in. If you take lots of photos or video with your smartphone then you may like the larger screen. However some may find them bulky to carry around and hold. Take your time when you are choosing the right phone for you. Play with a few. How do they feel in your hand? Can you hold them for a while without too much discomfort? Will you be able to carry them easily in your handbag or pocket? 5. Storage The amount of storage you will need is dependent on what you want to store. Generally 16GB is more than enough for most people. However, if you want to store HD movies to watch on your daily commute, then you may require more storage capacity. Some phones have SD card slots which lets you add more memory if required. 6. The Camera This is important if you use your camera to take all your pictures. Most of the cameras are not that great but they do vary in quality. Generally speaking smartphone cameras have between 5mp and 13mp (highest), but that doesn’t mean the 8mp camera takes the best quality pictures. What’s more important is the level of exposure. For example the HTC one only has 4mp camera but because it lets in 300% more light the pictures are often higher quality than those taken with an 8mp camera. Under low light conditions this camera tends to produce high quality pictures The Galaxy S4 however has a 13mp camera and produces the best quality pictures in daylight. However when it comes to shots of moving objects this phone will blur the object rather than freezing it. However the bonus with the Samsung Galaxy 4 is that it is that you can shoot with the front and back camera at the same time. Other Features Each smartphone brand has its own special features which help it stand out from its competitors. Some may find some of these features nice to haves, while others may consider them essentials. The above should give you an idea about some of the things to look for to ensure you get the best smartphone for you.
