An Upholstery Cleaning Long Term Success

Home Improvement,Fashion & Cosmetics,Crafts
The quicker you respond to a stain on upholstery specially the leather type, the more likely you will be able to remove the spot yourself. It is important to determine the type of leather you're working with.

Most of today's leather furniture will be made with top-coat protected leather which is generally safe to clean. Leather, the ever-popular furniture choice, can be kept luscious with a few simple strategies. Most people aren't aware that there are actually many different grades and types of leather, oil, chrome, and vege-tanned leather are just a few, and then there are true buckskin, rawhide and untreated leathers as well.It is very important to include upholstery cleaning as a regularly scheduled item in your list of housekeeping tasks. If not for anything else, upholstery cleaning ensures that your living or working environment is comfortable, neat and in order.

Here are some upholstery cleaning tips to fight back against stains.

General Leather Upholstery Cleaning

Moisturizing soap works well with leather furniture. Lather soap on a soft cloth and wash upholstery to remove dirt and grime. Make sure you don't get the leather too wet and avoid rinsing. Leaving the moisturizing soap on the leather conditions it. Then polish as usual.

Cleaning furniture upholstery can be performed using different techniques and technologies. There is the wet extraction method also known as hot water extraction or steam cleaning. With this method, a fine mist of special detergent water is sprayed on the surface and immediately vacuumed along with the soil and other contaminants.

Stains on Leather Upholstery

You're working in your leather chair when suddenly your pen explodes. Don't panic- instead reach for a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol. Dip the swab into the rubbing alcohol and rub over the ink stain. Then dry the area with a blow dryer. If you still see the stain after drying, apply a thick coat of non-gel, non-oily cuticle remover. Leave this on overnight and wipe off with a damp cloth.

Dark stains: (i.e. food, blood, etc.): Make a paste of one part cream of tartar with 1 part lemon juice. Rub this paste on the stain and leave it set for 10 minutes. Remove the paste with a damp rag and moisturizing soap, as described above for general cleaning. Buff the leather dry with a soft cloth.

Grease stains: Simply wipe stain from the leather using a dry cloth. Do not apply water to the grease stain.

Newsprint: Newspapers left on leather furniture can cause a newsprint ink stain. Spray the stain lightly with aerosol hair spray and then wipe with a soft cloth.

Dark Stains on Light Leather Furniture

To remove dark stains from your lightly colored leather upholstery, follow these steps:

Mix one part creme of tartar with one part lemon juice to form a paste. Rub this paste on the stain, leaving in place for 10 minutes; repeat this step. Remove with a damp sponge or a damp sponge and moisturizing soap. Contacting a furniture-cleaning professional may be your best bet if the stain has been in place for some time.
