Alkaline antioxidant water is treated water that has a pH value greater than 7.0 and contains antioxidants. The name itself implies the nature of the treated water and its contents. Pure water is neither acidic nor base. It has a neutral value on the pH scale which is 7.0. Acids have a pH value of less than 7.0 while alkalis or bases have a pH value of more than 7.0. Pure water is water that doesn’t contain any dissolved gases, minerals or any materials. Tap water is also processed but it is only subjected to distillation and other natural filtration processes to extract the unwanted elements in water. Alkalized water is chemically treated to have a certain induced quality. Alkaline antioxidant water is known by many names. It is invariably called alkaline ionized water, electrolyzed water, ionized water and alkaline water. The most common method used to make this variant of water is by electrolysis. The process involves treating water with potassium hydroxide or sodium bicarbonate which turns the neutral water into alkaline water and subsequently, antioxidants are added to the alkaline water to make it healthy. Alkaline antioxidant water is typically made by companies that manufacture health supplements. Not all companies have the same approach or procedure. The alkali that is used to electrolyze the water may also vary from one company to another. Besides, the antioxidants used in alkaline water may also vary across brands. Vitamin A, vitamin C and many other minerals are effective antioxidants. Companies can choose to use any of the antioxidants that have no side effects and are proven to be effective. To know for certain, the method and the contents of water in a specific case, you should refer to the label on the bottle. There are certain standard methods of processing water to alkalize it and add antioxidants but every company has its own approach which may or may not be similar to the standard procedures. Alkaline antioxidant water has numerous health benefits, some of which have been proved and some have not been backed by the scientific community. While the extent of health benefits of alkalized water with antioxidants can be debated, what is beyond the scope of any debate or doubt is that this water is healthy for consumption. People of all age groups would benefit from drinking it, especially those who have medical problems.
