I am right now the proud grandmother of two lovable grandchildren and they are growing up pretty fast. Now for my daughters, I know that they have convertible cribs but when they come to visit Grammy they need a space to call their own starting with a bed to slumber in. So I figured the best idea would be to pick up a toddler bed but where should I begin. There are many options to go for from like online retailers, or my local box store. Then I though why not create a toddler bed my self for them. I was never one that likes to have what everyone else had so I wanted something different and exceptional for my grand little ones. You might have to drill new screw holes in order to get it as far down as you would like. You can also lay another mattress underneath the bed by building a trundle to pull out for little ones sleep over. The first option is to use palettes that you find free. You can always find these palettes from community who are trying to give them away. To assemble this bed you will need to put two of them and join them underneath with a 2x4 and a few wood nails adding feet are an preference. Be sure to sand the bed down well to prevent splinters and a good coat of high quality paint will transform this cute creation. You can also add a few wheels to make it more mobile. The second option is to up cycle an old baby bed. You can bring the springs platform down so that the mattress sits lower so the bed will be low to the floor. Have a screw drive handy in case you have to drill new screw holes. You might have to drill new screw holes in order to get it as far down as you would like. You can also place another mattress beneath the bed by building a trundle to glide out for kids sleep over. The third idea is to screw 4x4's to plywood you need to have five of these 4x4's at a height that you feel comfortable with or you can get the measurements of a toddler bed from a store to find the measurements that your looking for. Be sure to use wood screws when you attach the plywood to the (5) 4x4's. Now this will be a rough look so it's best to mask it with bed skirt and add a headboard and you’re in business. I decided to use the plywood and 4x4’s technique. It’s simple and painless to construct. What’s also great is you can have the pieces cut at your local hardware store so no tools needed. Within a evening I had completed the toddles bed and they were ready to be put into their room. I was so excited that the room came to life and to see the transformation before my very eyes. It's really easy to be creative and to find ways to save money on stuff that you need. So instead of doing without set aside a budget and think outside the box, you can get exactly what you desire.
