A colleague of mine asked me before "Why do corporate gifts still matter?" I don't know if he's asking me something obvious but the question struck me. Why do we even bother to exert some effort for corporate gifts? The question has no fixed answer. But thinking about it, there are some answers to the said question. Some of them are obvious to the point that they become part of daily life; and when they become part of daily life, nobody notices them much because everyone else is busy with something else. Here are some of the answers to the question of why does corporate gifts matter. 1. It's a great way to interact with your audience. Some of us have been to a concert, and some musicians, when they perform. They go all the way and throw themselves towards the audience. It's their way of reaching out to their fans and telling them: "hey look, this is what me and my band does, do you like it?" of course they say "yes" because why would they be at that concert if they didn't like them in the first place? The same idea goes for corporate gifts. Think of yourself as the company rockstar trying to give out promotional gift items to an audience where you're finding your new set of fans. It's the same as that guy who's giving out mp3 CDs of his own records because he knows he'll be famous one day. Come to think of it, If you want a loyal fan base why not go out there and give out some trinkets to people rather than sitting in your office telling them "Ooh, buy my product". And while we're talking about a loyal fan base it's wise to note that... 2. You're giving them something useful in their everyday lives. So you're outside, promoting your brand to passersby in the mall. You've decided to give out some pens! It's pretty easy to give out and it's not that expensive for your company. Stop and think. What else are the benefits of this? Well one such benefit is that you're giving people things that they will use later on. You're not giving them trash, you're giving them something that they could use every single day in some of the menial tasks that they do. Choice of product affects whether you will fail or succeed. It's an open secret to always pick items that people will use when they need it, like signing that bill and they don't have a pen handy. Remember: corporate gift giving is a two way street - You give your audience things that they will use someday and then they'll recall your brand when they get a hold of it. 3. Corporate Gifts keep you in check with reality. In the working world, it's easy to be lost in a world of paperwork, graphs, diagrams and seemingly endless reports. While corporate gifts also function as part of the working world, what's great with it is that you get to interact with people outside your working world. You get to talk to people outside your office table, even your office. They give you an opportunity to get outside and give these people these things while also benefiting the company. Like what is said above, corporate gift giving is a two way street. You can't help the company if you can't help others as well. Corporate gifts are like the cars that move through the entire corporate highway, they keep the money flowing for the company and they keep helping people in many useful ways as possible. Because after all, that's the nature of business: It's to help people out and benefit from it.
