The lightest caravans are usually about 450 kilos of weight, so you will need a car with a 60 horsepower minimum. If you intend to buy a heavier caravan which weighs more than a ton then your car must be 100 horse power. If the Maximum Technically Permissible Laden Mass (MTPLM) exceed even by 1 kg is illegal and in a case of accident insurance will not be valid. Equivalent to this guideline, it is not recommended to exceed the towing capacity because the caravan may become unstable.
The best practice for towing a caravan is that the MTPLM of your caravan for sale should be 85 % of the car's weight (together with 7 kg luggage and 70kg for the driver).
