Fighting the Causes of Facial Wrinkles

We will all develop facial wrinkles as time passes, but the appearance of wrinkles is not causes simply by the clock. Knowing the different causes for skin aging is the first step to minimizing it as much as possible. This article will discuss the reasons for those wrinkles, so that you can take the appropriate actions to prevent them for as long as you can!

1. The Sun

The same sun which is so essential for life on Earth is also the greatest source of damage to human skin. The biggest culprits are the sun's ultraviolet rays, which cause your skin's connective tissues, collagen and elastin, to deteriorate. Without support from those tissues, your facial skin will begin to wrinkle and sag. But sun exposure will also cause age spots, irregular skin tone, and prominent blood vessels.

2. Dehydration

Unless your skin has enough moisture, it will exhibit its age quite clearly. Well-hydrated skin is plump, supple, firm, and most of all, youthful. You need to drink enough water each day to provide your skin with the moisture it needs!

3. Free Radicals

A lifetime of exposure to pollutants and toxins will eventually lead to free radical damage to your skin. Free radicals are unstable molecules which re-stabilize themselves by stealing electrons from healthy skin cells, and cause errors in the cell's genetic blueprints. Pollutants, on t he other hand, will contribute to collagen destruction. Together they will add years, if not decades, to your appearance.

Finding ways to limit your exposure to toxins and pollutants, or to minimize their damage, are essential if you want to maintain ah healthy, youthful appearance.

4. Tobacco

Because smoking interferes with blood circulation, it decreases the amounts of oxygen and nutrients which reach the skin. People who smoke also have less collagen and elastin tissue, so their skin is not as firm and supple as it would normally be. Because of their lack of connective tissues, smokers have more wrinkles and will look older than non-smokers of the same age.

5. Diet

A diet deficient in antioxidants and essential fatty acids will be a skin-aging diet. Even if your hectic lifestyle makes it hard for you to eat the way you know you should, do whatever you can to replace the fast, sugary, and processed foods you eat with lean proteins, fresh low-glycemic fruits and veggies, whole grains, and healthy fats. Back up you plan by making sure you take supplements to provide whatever your diet doesn’t.

6. Sleep

You may think you can function perfectly with less than seven hours each nigh, but depriving yourself of sleep will raise your cortisol levels. Cortisol is a stress hormone closely linked to aging, including the aging of skin. Burning the midnight oil will get you thin, wrinkled, puffy skin.
