With all of the uncertainty that is happening on Wall Street and within the economy, you can't afford to be clueless about what is going on with your money. It doesn't matter which banks you have accounts with, you need to make sure that those financial institutions are actually worthy of your business. All too often you hear about people complaining about how they were treated wrong by different organizations and you never really hear about what they did to get that kind of treatment. People are so quick to base their decisions off of what other people say, but how can you be certain that that is the complete truth coming out of their mouths? Before you make any decisions or form any opinions that are based off of anyone else's experience, make sure you find out what the facts are. If you are constantly being charged overdraft and over the limit fees, stop blaming the people that work at the banks. Instead start looking at your financial habits. When you opened your account and deposited your money, you agreed to the fee schedules that are in place. It is understandable that occasionally you may make a mistake. It is also understandable that you may be upset when you see a charge for something you feel you don't deserve. But rather than just jumping ship and opening an account elsewhere, try seeing if you can get to the heart of the matter and rectify the situation yourself. If the fees you are being charged with are something that doesn't happen too often, contact the bank and ask them to remove them. Instead of assuming that there is nothing that can be done, get on the phone. You may be surprised to find that many banks are willing to work with you. They value your money just as much as you do. In some cases, it may be time for you to move on to another financial institution. This is especially true in cases where you have had an account for many years and your lifestyle has changed a lot since you first opened the account. Before you rush to open a free account or rush to take advantage of an offer for free money into your account, make sure you research the different banks you are considering. You want to avoid being put in apposition to change financial homes in the future if you can avoid it. You want to choose a place where you will feel comfortable and satisfied with the services and treatment that are being offered to you. Think about where you want to be financially five years from now. Ask yourself if where you currently or plan to bank with now will be able to meet all of your needs then.
