When you are a layman and crazy for the basketball, you must want to learn the players’ positions in the game of basketball. There are the key 5 five positions in the Basketball game and it includes Point Guard, Shooting Guard, Small Forward, Power Forward and Center position. Each player position has specific responsibilities as detailed hereunder. - Point Guard
Main Skills: Passing, Dribbling, Defense and outside shooting. The player in this position must have the best passing and dribbling skills in the team. Physical Attributes: Shorter and quick player. Offensive & Defensive Responsibilities: The player at the point guard position dribbles ball in the court. He tries to drive the ball to the basket for scoring opportunities for his team. He defends the players of another team to drive to the basket. - Shooting Guard
Main Skills: Passing, outside shooting, defense, rebounding and Dribbling. Physical Attributes: He needs to be the quick player in the team. He must be taller than the player in the point guard to shoot the ball over the defender. Offensive & Defensive Responsibilities: Shooting guard receives the pass to open the shot. They also have to drive the ball to the basket for scoring opportunities. Shooting guard also defends the players on the opposite side. He is responsible to prevent them from the basket and to crash the boards to rebound. He is also responsible to put a check on the fast break. - Small Forward
Main Skills: Rebounding, outside shooting, inside shooting, passing, Dribbling and defense. The player in this position should be a versatile and athletic player. Physical Attributes: He must be taller than guards and short from the power forward player. Offensive & Defensive Responsibilities: He receives a pass from his teammate from an open shot. He looks to dive ball to the basket for scoring. He is responsible for offensive rebounding. The small forward player has to defend the players of the opposite team. He is also responsible to re-bound the basketball. - Power Forward
Main Skills: The player of power forward position needs to have the rebounding, defense and Inside shooting skills. Physical Attributes: He should be the second tallest player in the team. He must be tall, aggressive and strong. Offensive & Defensive Responsibilities: The power forward basketball player plays in the post area. Offensive rebounding is an important assigned to him. He has to play the post defense. He helps other teammates to drive the ball to the basket. He is responsible to bounce back the basketball effectively. - Center
Main Skills: Shot-blocking, rebounding, defense and Inside shooting. Physical Attributes: He should be the tallest player in the team to assign for the center player position. He must also be the strong and aggressive. Offensive & Defensive Responsibilities: His role opens when he gets the pass from his teammates at the forwards and guard position. He should have the good post move and his key task is offensive rebounding. He should oppose the players from another team and help his teammates to reach to the basket for scoring in the game.
