Having an e-commerce website is all about convenience. It is also about the cost benefit since with an e-commerce website alone, you do not have to lease a commercial space. What you would need to pay for would be your domain name and the developers and designers who will build your e-commerce website.

With a digital storefront now in your hands, there might be errors that you unknowingly commit that makes it not as stellar as you envisioned it to be. Are you committing any of these errors?

1. Not having enough product descriptions. A downside of online shopping is that for shoppers, they do not have any contact with the product they wish to buy. With an online store that does not have substantial product descriptions, it can greatly affect their shopping experience.

If you do not have enough descriptions for the clothes and shoes that you are selling, for instance, it would be impossible for you to have satisfied customers. Make sure that every possible description about the product you are selling is available on the page. If the product is available in different sizes, dimensions or colours, list down all options.

Aside from making sure that you have enough product descriptions, have enough product images as well. While there is Google Image to come to the rescue, it is best to upload product images you took yourself to establish your credibility as an online seller.

2. Using product descriptions coming from the manufacturer. Do you know the danger of using the same product descriptions provided by a manufacturer? Your online store will not be indexed by search engines. For sure, your manufacturer does not only deal with you alone. There are tons of other sellers and distributors that they transact with. If the product descriptions from the manufacturer are found in other online stores related to your industry, you can guarantee that your website will get banned from Google. Rewrite original product descriptions. Hire a writer who can spin these for you and make it original for the sake of your business. With Google algorithms getting smarter by the minute, it is impossible that duplicate content will go undetected.

3. Check-out is way too complicated. A potential reason that can turn off shoppers is a complicated checkout method. According to Compuware, if it takes more than 5 steps before your customer can successfully buy a product from your website, then it means you are asking too much from them already.

Buying from an online store should be easy. This is part of the customer satisfaction that you want your shoppers to experience. With the limitation in interaction, it is essential to invest in all means to make the shopping experience unique and a satisfying one. If you can, try to limit the checkout method for your website to the following: a shopping cart page, a billing page, a shipping page, a payment module page and a confirmation page. Make your e-commerce website a fun experience for your customers. Do not wait for the moment for them to get peeved by errors you unknowingly or knowingly commit on your online store.
