Who doesn’t like a challenge? I think we all do. Maybe we don’t want to admit it, but when someone challenges us to something, we go into competitive mode and want to at least try. This is why losing weight when we are challenged to do so makes it more fun, easier, and less like a “chore”. Especially if a friend is doing the challenge with you. Why is a weight loss challenge important? I think it gives us more motivation to achieve our weight loss goals, rather than just saying “Ok I am going on a diet”. A diet is boring and not very motivating. And anyone who has struggled to lose weight has already been on diets before. Many diet perpetually. But, when given a challenge that incorporates a start and end date, with a realistic goal, we have something to strive for that has an end. It is not life-long or never ending. And just think how much better that will make you feel, knowing there is an end to the tunnel. When we can see an end in site, I think it is easier to stick with the challenge and not give up thinking weight loss is impossible. Has anyone ever challenged you to do something in your life? How did that make you feel? Did you accept the challenge eagerly? Maybe even a bit on the competitive side? It probably did spark at least some of that inside of you. When we make the decision to lose weight and improve our overall health, it is helpful to go into it with enthusiasm and realistic goals in mind. So many people give up on their goals because they do not have support, or they lack self- motivation. But a weight loss challenge can remove both of these obstacles. If you set realistic goals, with the knowledge of an end in site, you will have a better chance to succeed. And if you challenge a few friends to do this with you, it can be so much fun. Make a game of it and have little prizes along the way. Non- food prizes of course! Are you are wondering how to get started on your weight loss challenge? First set your weight loss goal. Perhaps you want to lose 50 lbs. Then decide how long your challenge is going to last. Perhaps 30 days. Maybe 3 months. Don’t make it too long of a timespan, or you will likely give up before the end date. Now break your goals down and decide how many pounds you want to lose over say each week. Slow is best. Maybe 1-2 lbs a week is proven to be a great goal. Set a date to begin. Tomorrow never comes BTW. Your final step before getting started is to invite a few friends to join you on your mission to lose weight and get healthier. Oh, and always remember, depending on how large your goal is, you can always participate in several challenges. No one said that you can only do one or you have failed. And after you see how well you did on your first challenge, you will be so excited to do another one! I wish you well in your weight loss challenge and goals.
