From NAND flash memory in the mid 1980’s and USB flash drive in late 1990’s, we can now hope to soon carry around simple sticky notes that will help us read and transfer electronic data. Akin to the yellow sticky notes that are a convenient tool to expedite mid-way communication, the dataSTICKIES, as the name suggests, aid electronic storage and transfer of files like a USB drive. Conceptualized by Architect & Industrial Designer, Aditi Singh and Associate Professor of Industrial Design at the SPA, New Delhi, Parag Anand Meshram, dataSTICKIES is a 2013 Red Dot Award winner for Best Design Concept. Here’s how it works: dataSTICKIESTM is stack of sticky notes, that can be removed from the stack and stuck anywhere on the proposed ODTS (Optical Data Transfer Surface), a panel on the front surface of devices like computer screens, televisions, music systems, and so on. The special conductive glue that sticks the dataSTICKIESTM to the ODTS is the medium that transfers the data. The glue comprises a ground-breaking new material, Grapheme, which is a flat mono-layer of carbon atoms tightly packed into a thin two-dimensional honeycomb lattice. This can store a huge volume of data. Also, the special low-tack, pressure-sensitive adhesive is capable of being reused without leaving marks. Conceptualized in different colours and patterns that convenience data segregation according to type and size, the sticky notes can be clubbed to increase memory capacity, which also enables carrying them together. The top surface can be written on. If a file needs to be given to someone, a single sticky can be handed out rather than an entire pen drive. The dataSTICKIESTM are not easily lost because they can be stuck down on any object. The idea of bridging the virtual world and the physical world with more advanced, compact and sleek design makes this concept yet another tech-tool that is apt for enhanced user experience and a driver for positive change. to view images click on inditerrain.indiaartndesign.com
