Jesse James Jesse Woodson James was the archetype for the Wild Wild West criminal. Jesse, along with his brother Frank, robbed numerous banks and stagecoaches throughout Kansas City. In 1873, the pair of brothers took up robbing trains instead. In the end, James was shot by his most trusted gang members, Robert and Charley Ford. The brothers were charged with first-degree murder, convicted, sentenced to death, and pardoned by the governor within 24 hours. Regardless of their motivation, numerous American figures have robbed banks, trains, and other places of significant value.
