Cancer is one of those mysterious topics that no one has a straight answer for. We’re pouring billions of dollars into research for “the cure” however cancer rates are on the rise. So what’s the go? What is it that we know, but not told? Here are some truths I believe will help eliminate this insidious six letter word from your life. We All Have Cancer Cells What do I mean when I say that we all have cancer cells? Well let me explain. It is true that we all have cancer cells in our body, it’s just that some people have a lot more than the average person. Cancer cells do not show up in standardised tests until they have multiplied to a few billion and are active within the body, causing health issues. In fact, when a doctor gives a patient the all clear after cancer treatment, they are not saying that there are no cancerous cells left. Instead, what they mean is that the number of cancer cells left in the body is less than detectable levels. You are Not Helpless in the Face of Cancer When you first hear this information it can feel overwhelming but this doesn’t mean that you should give up hope because you fear that the situation is irreversible. What’s essential is to understand why some people live cancer free, some “get” cancer and fight it successfully and then of course there are those that don’t make it. Just remember you are not helpless, and the daily nutritional and lifestyle choices you make can affect which of these three categories that you will fall into. Give Yourself More Than a Fighting Chance So what are the differences between a healthy person and one that contracts cancer? The way that you live and look after yourself is the major factor, here are some things that you can do to look after your health and wellbeing: Eat Right and Get Physical When a person has cancer, it indicates that person has nutritional deficiencies. This means that cancer can be reversed through radical changes to your diet (note this is different to going on a diet). Eating a healthy nutritious diet is going to help keep cancer and many other diseases away. We underestimate how much damage that a diet filled with junk food and sugary drinks can do to our body. The effects are long term and if this is you, don’t wait until tomorrow to change, start now. Eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, minimising sugar and alcohol can prevent as many as one third of all cancers. Drinking enough alkaline water every day that provides you with the extra minerals that you need and eating an alkaline diet will not only ward off illness but give you the energy and focus you need for a happy life. Getting and staying physical is vital to your wellbeing regardless of your age. Leading a sedentary life is bad for your health and encourages illnesses like cancer to take hold in your body. As Dr Otto Warburg, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate discovered, viruses, bacteria and fungus cannot live in an alkaline environment full of oxygen. Exercise creates more oxygen to flow throughout your body and cancer doesn’t like it. Manage Your Ideal Weight Weight management can be tough and many of us have struggled with it at some point in our lives. What I can tell you about being overweight is that it is a slippery slide towards ill health if not checked and reversed. Always work towards having a healthy weight for your body size and structure. You will not only feel great but it creates an environment that makes it difficult for cancer and disease to form. Cancer Cells Feed On.. I have already mentioned maintaining a healthy, alkaline diet. An acidic environment helps cancer to manifest and there are some foods that you must minimise or avoid altogether: Refined sugar – cancer cells love sugar. Cut it out of your diet as it really serves no nutritional purpose. Sugar substitutes are even worse so don’t even think about it. Avoid anything with aspartame which is a known carcinogen. Use natural alternatives such as raw honey (not heat treated). It’s also best to avoid table salt. It’s refined with added whitening chemicals. Use Himalayan salt or sea salt as these contain trace minerals that provide balance. Milk/Dairy – causes the body to produce mucus that feeds cancer cells. Acid causing foods/beverages – cancer thrives in an acidic environment. Meat based diets are highly acidic so if you need to have it, opt for white flesh meats as opposed to red, e.g. fish, chicken. Meat also contains antibiotics and growth hormones which are harmful. Stay alkaline – cancers cannot form in an alkaline environment so work towards alkalising your body. The Problem with Conventional Cancer Treatments I don’t have all the answers regarding cancer treatment but it does concer me that chemotherapy destroys healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastro-intestinal tract despite poisoning cancer cells. And radiation treatments burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs during the process of getting rid of cancerous cells. While initial treatment can reduce tumour size, prolonged use does not fully destroy it. The immune system of a person can be severely compromised once it is weighed down by the toxicity of chemotherapy and radiation treatments and this can cause a range of complications for the person such as infections. The best way to treat cancer is to work to avoid it in the first place by implementing the tips above. Eat and drink well, stay physically active and reduce your stress levels.
