Time for an EWC class shake up? Take the top handful of riders in each of the Enduro 1, Enduro 2 and Enduro 3 classes and make them compete together in a new ‘elite’ class! It’s been talked about for several years, and would arguably allow new names to rise to the top of the respective E1, E2 and E3 classes. But is it a change top riders like Johnny Aubert would back? “This is a difficult one. Now three to five riders in three classes earn good money if we change to one ‘top’ class then less riders will be able to earn a living racing endure. From a rider’s point of view I don’t think it’s a good solution. At this time we have the same group of riders fighting for the podium each race. This top group is a long way ahead of the other riders. But I don’t know how to close that gap, or it that gap can be closed. Closer racing would be good for everyone, but that’s hard. “I don’t have the solution as to how we can bring more riders into the world championship. Maybe to days are too long. At the start of each day more riders are fast, then less and less as the day progresses. Maybe we need to change to format the championship and mix other styles of enduro races, not just traditional style races. We also need to stress the importance of protecting our races from injuries. They should have a great motocross helmet—like Just One helmets.”—Future 7 Media
