The ielts course stands for the International English Language Testing System, a testing program designed to determine the proficiency of the tester in using the English language. This particular course has been prepared for people who have plans of pursuing higher education in an academic institution based in an English-speaking country. The standard ielts course is available in two different versions. The first of the two is the Academic Module which is reserved for people who wish to take up an English academic degree. The second, referred to as the General Training Module, is intended for those who only want to complete an English non-academic program usually for immigration purposes. When either of the two modules is taken, this will be made available in four distinct parts. These include reading, writing, listening, and speaking, but not necessarily in that order. Despite the differences in terms of intention, the Academic Module is generally considered as the more important test as per the standards set by a number of countries. These include those operating in the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. Surprisingly, US-based academic schools have made use of the IELTS only recently. Four prominent academic organizations are recognized as the official administrators of the IELTS. Among these are the British Council, IELTS Australia, the University of Cambridge ESOL Exams, and IDP Education Australia. In this regard, it is worth noting that several professional organizations like the UK Ministry of Defense and the British Medical Council as well as various international immigration agencies have also begun using the test as part of their respective internal processes. More than a hundred different countries have set the ielts course as a pre-requisite for those intending to study in their respective universities and colleges.
