Some people grow so attached to the home they have rented that they wish that they could buy the same house by themselves so that they don't have to leave it ever. If you are also among such people and you are a resident of UK then you would be pleased to know that you have the right to buy the home you are living in for years. Now if you are curious about the main criteria's that you need to qualify in order to exorcise this right then you must have a look at the three main criteria we have listed over here as you cannot buy the home at a discount if you don’t qualify these criteria’s. |
The landlord should be working in a public body
Then landlord of your home should be a member of the public body like council, govt. department or housing association as it will ensure that you are covered under this right. If your landlord’s occupation doesn’t fall into these categories then you must not try to have a claim on the home you are living as a tenant.
You must have lived there for 5 years
Another criterion that you must qualify is that you should have at least lived in the place you are going to live in for five years. Even if you have not lived in the same place for 5 years continuously then too you will have the liberty to buy the home you have lived in.
You shouldn't have existing share in the ownership
You can’t exercise this right if you already have some form of ownership for this home. In such cases you can have a mutual agreement with the landlord to increase your share rather than having to exercise this right because you won’t have the power to exercise this right.
So we hope that these points would help you to see weather that you can make the house you are living in as a permanent residence or not. You would also be pleased to know that buying the home you are living into is a legal right which is backed by the government of UK and it would also support you to get through the entire process in an easy manner. So stop asking yourself that can i rent my right to buy and get on the process as soon as possible,
