Before the heavily armored military people became well-known in the field of tactics and weapons, the Native American Indians have already mastered the art of weaponry. Although we are aware that technology has greatly helped in the evolution of guns and knives, one can proudly say that we owe the basics to the natives. The Native Americans are not just creative people so to speak. They are not only brilliant in crafting handmade products and Indian Headdress, but are also smart enough to sustain and feed themselves through hunting. Thus, a native can only be good in that expertise if he knows how to create, innovate, and handle various weapons for different purposes. Here are some of the most common weapons and tools used by Native Americans that have pretty much left a mark in the ones we have today. Bow and Arrow Who wouldn’t be familiar with this lovely combination? A bow and an arrow are practically similar to committed lovers, they are just inseparable. One cannot be effective without the other but put them together and they can beat a ton of enemies. If you are into watching old native films, then you surely haven’t missed seeing a bow and an arrow on a fight or hunting scene. Movies have been created and recreated, groping through different timelines with still a bow and arrow present. It has primarily become a legend for the natives. Long before, bows are arrows are made in different sizes, depending on its purpose. For instance, such weapon is smaller when used for hunting compared to those that are used for fighting and wars. The arrowhead points are normally crafted with bones and stones and are way smaller than spear points so that it penetrates the skin more deeply. Knives and Daggers Well this kind of weapon is something that is never out of hand from a Native American soldier. Their sizes vary as well and were always carried in a sheath by a native’s side or were hung around the neck. They are normally flaked from stone to mold the cutting edges. Aside from self-defense, knives were also useful tools for cutting meat, wood, and hides. Axe Club An axe is made out of stones and metal blades that has a sharp edge on one side and has a pointed end on the other side, usually shaped like a diamond. The blade is attached with a wooden handle. This weapon is customarily used for hand fights. Hatchet This is a smaller version of a regular axe that is most suitably used with one hand. Battle Hammer From the name itself, this weapon is made out of hammer-like head on one side and a point on the other side. These weapons only show that the Natives are indeed experts of handmade crafts that do not only show intricacy but also great functionality. Although some may find these weapons old fashioned, there is no denying to the fact that they have indeed become a good foundation to the most sophisticated weapons used in the world today.
