In recent times where energy cost around the world seams to be going up solar panels can substantially reduce your energy cost. They are also environmentally friendly and they do not emit any harmful gases or leave behind harmful byproducts after they produce electricity from the sun. They are three types of solar panels on the market today. Monocrystalline, Polycrystalline and the newest type Amorphous or Thin Film. Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Different Types Of Solar Panels Monocrystalline Solar Panels are among the oldest type of panels but they are still the most efficient and dependable Solar Panels on the market today. One of these panels gives you more wattage per square foot when compared to the other types. They are a good choice when space is limited and you are looking for a high energy output. They last twenty five years and up. The disadvantage about them are Monocrystalline are more expensive because they are more complex to produce but in turn you get more efficiency for your money. They are fragile when compared to the other types so they must be mounted rigidly. Once the temperature reaches 50 degrees celsius the panels loses energy output (efficiency) between 12 and 15 percent which is still better than energy output reduction of the Polycrystalline type when they reach 50 degrees Celsius or above. These panels are a great long term investment. Polycrystalline Solar Panels advantages are they are a lot cheaper and more affordable when compared to Monocrystalline type because they are simpler to produce. They are more suited for people that are on a budget but still want a pretty good energy output from their panels. Polycrystallines are also the most common type of panel on the market. They are dependable and they also last long. The disadvantages are Polycrystalline Panels are not as efficient as Monocrystalline Panels, they do not give you as much wattage per square foot when compared to the Monocrystalline type and their efficiency decreases more over 50 degrees Celsius when also compared to Monocrystalline. Polycrystalline Panels are still a good choice if you can not afford the Monocrystalline type. They are the next best thing. Amorphous solar panels or thin film solar panels is the newest type on the market. They are also are allot cheaper and stronger when compared to Mono and Polycrystalline Panels. Amorphous are not ridged like Monocrystalline and Polycrystalline Solar Panels. The more popular type is made with flexible laminate which makes it more versatile. They can be applied to almost any surface. The best thing about amorphous panels is that the energy output does not decrease when the temperature increases when compared to Monocrystalline and Polycrystalline panels. This makes this panel extremely good for places that have very hot conditions. The disadvantages are Amorphous not as efficient at the other two types. They are over 40% less efficient and you will need at least twice as much of Amorphous solar panels to get the same output as Monocrystalline and Polycrystalline Solar Panels. How long they last is not really known because they are a fairly new technology.
