How to clean a window professionally To Squeegee or not to Squeegee? Despite what people may think professional Window cleaning whether Domestic or Commercial is not a simple skill picked up in a matter of minutes. Anyone CAN clean a window to an extent but not everyone can clean a window properly! The best way of cleaning a window is always 'hands on' involving the use of a squeegee, however some windows may be accessible by this method so other means such as Reach & Wash have to be used, this is a compromise however as the result will not be as consistently good as using a squeegee. The basic correct method of cleaning a window using a squeegee is as follows:- 1. Fill a bucket with normal tap water 2. Pour in a sufficient amount of fairy liquid (mild detergent) 3. Using an applicator tool or cloth apply solution to glass of window all over using friction of applicator / cloth to loosen dirt particles 4. Starting from the top corner that is most comfortable depending on whether you are right or left handed, place the squeegee vertically and pull across horizontally firmly ensuring that the blade doesn't leave the surface of the glass. having a cloth or applicator underneath to catch any excess water that falls from the squeegee. 5. When the blade reaches the opposite side of the window gracefully curve the squeegee downwards in a C shaped action and repeat the movement across the window in the opposite direction ensuring that the squeegee overlaps its previous path by an inch so that no lines of water are left. 6. Repeat the motion until the window is cleaned ensuring that the corners are not left when moving the blade down. 7. Using your cloth wipe up any spills on the window sills or surrounding frame. Window cleaners practise an art not a science and takes a lot of practice to perfect! If a window is not accessible for 'hands on cleaning' the Reach and Wash method can be used as mentioned above. Reach & Wash involves the use of an extending water-fed pole normally made of carbon fibre or similar materials and which has a specially made cleaning brush on the end and water jets within this which allows the person operating the pole to put water directly onto the window whilst constantly 'agitating the dirt' at the same time. The water is often taken from a tank installed on a vehicle via a pump and the water has normally gone through a filtering process called 'reverse osmosis' which removes almost all of the minerals and chalk in the water which would otherwise leave streaks and marks on the windows and allows the windows to dry clear.
