The Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56 with its 56mm objective lens is widely regarded as the ultimate long-range scope. Providing precision at the longest ranges and with a magnification range of 5.5x to 22x, this advanced field tactical scope has a wide magnification factor. Weighing 32 ounces and being 15.2 inches long, the design of this scope has an unique crudeness which evokes a tough feel. Subjected to extreme harsh testing, this scope can withstand all sorts of abuses. With 100 MOA elevation travel and 20 MOA or 10 mils of travel per turret revolution, and a reticle position on the second focal plane, this scope is also very effective for short-range shooting. This scope is equipped with the mil dot reticle. The illuminated reticle is a standard feature, which complements the side parallax adjustment. In most scopes used for law enforcement, the mil dot reticle is now considered a common characteristic. The Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56 mil dot is designed in such a manner that the sniper is able to view the target without any obstruction and can estimate the range from his target accurately. The mil dot reticle uses round dots which are placed 1 mil apart from each other and are arranged on the crossed lines. These dots are not closed ones but can be seen through. Even the four posts used in the reticle are transparent. 1 mil on the reticle refers to 3.6 inches at 100 yards at specified power. With the mil dots etched on the multicoated glass, the shooter is assured that there would not be any misalignment of the reticle. The dots are illuminated and glows with a red hue and the intensity of the colour can be changed. This enables the sniper to bring in reticle contrast by illuminating when there is dim light or not illuminating and leaving it black. In the Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56 np-r1, the reticle provides an uncluttered vision. This is because the vertical of the reticle has the smallest graduations. This type of a scope reticle is ideal for long-range shooting but can be used for other shorter ranges too. The 1 MOA elevation spacing and 2 MOS windage spacing assures of a clear image. This provides a certain degree of flexibility and can work for ranges beyond the fixed set of one or two dimensions. Using the vertical ladder with 1MOA spacing and the windage tics of 2 MOA gapping, the range can be ascertained by superimposing the reticle over the target and bracketing it between two points on the reticle. Hence, using the formula—target size in inches ÷ M.O.A. x 100 = range in yards—the range of any target can be determined easily. In addition to these features, the Zero Stop elevation turret and with 5.5 power, the Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56 guarantees precision for shots of all ranges.
