Ningbo-born swimmer Wang Shun has started his Olympic journey, heading for London on 8th July, 2012. Wang Shun will realize his dream to compete in the Olympic Games for first time. He has been able to make his Olympic journey because of good performances last year. He was the first swimmer in men’s 4 x 200 freestyle relay at the 14th FINA World Championships in Shanghai, where China secured the bronze medal, the best ever performance in the competition. And he broke Asia’s records in the men’s 400 metres individual medley final at the 2011 National Swimming Championships with 4 minutes and 11.61 seconds. The 18-year-old swimmer will compete at the 200 metres individual medley in the London Olympics. He will compete in the relay races if he performs well. According to the deputy director general of Ningbo Sports Bureau, 5 Ningbo athletes have been confirmed to attend the London Olympics including Dong Cheng and Li Jinzi from women’s boxing, Wang Shun from men’s swimming, Li Lin from pole vault, and the Ningbo boxer Ren Chanchan.
