The American Silver Eagles are among one of the premier silver bullion coin series released by the American mint. Since their conception in the year 1986 on 24th November, they have been exceptionally popular with investors, coin collectors as well as silver enthusiasts. These coins are made following a particular size, i.e. one-troy ounce, with a face value of $1. Also, they are guaranteed to be struck from 99.9 percent of pure silver. Right from the weight of the coins, their content to purity is certified by the American Mint. Where they are minted Apart from the bullion version of the Silver Eagles, the American Mint has produced two more versions. They are the proof and uncirculated versions. They are mainly designed for coin collection enthusiasts. This article will read about them in detail, afterwards. These coins have been produced at three of the Mints of USA – the San Francisco Mint, the Philadelphia Mint and the West Point Mint. Different versions of the coin Bullion format – these American coins don’t have any kinds of mintmarks on them. Initially, they were casted at the San Francisco Mint, in between the years1986 to 1998. Before being minted at the West Point Mint since 2001, they were casted at both West Point Mint as well as the Philadelphia Mint (between 1999 and 2000). Proof format – between the year 1986 and 1992, these coins were casted at the San Francisco Mint and bear a mintmark ‘S’. The coins that were minted at the Philadelphia Mint between 1993 and 2000 have ‘P’ mintmark on them. After that they were minted at the West Point Mint and quite obviously, they bear ‘W’ mint mark. Uncirculated format – In between 2006 and 2008 as well as well as in 2011, the American Mint produced collectible Silver Eagle coins with ‘W’ mintmark. As these coins were especially casted on burnished blanks that are often termed as Burnished Uncirculated. The design The obverse of the Silver Eagles were inspired by the ‘Walking Liberty’ by the great American sculptor Adolph Alexander Weinman, where as the reverse of these coins was designed by another American engraver and sculptor John M.
