Anger management is the term given to teaching people how to deal with their emotions without experiencing a loss of control. It became popular in the late 20th century, particularly for tackling criminal behavior in habitual offenders. While anger is a normal emotion, aggressive behavior is what we really want to manage since it is often emotionally or physically harmful. Anger management refers to techniques that individuals can use to regulate their feelings of anger and modulate their responses to those feelings. It also includes techniques that others can use to help the individual avoid situations that elicit or trigger anger and to help calm the person down once angered. These techniques are discussed below. Anger management teaches you to recognize frustrations early on and settle them in a way that allows you to express your needs, while remaining calm and in control. Coping with anger is an acquired skill which involves unlearning some of the bad behaviors that result from frustration. Anger management for kids aims to reduce kids' negative feelings, which can also help reduce physiological changes associated with anger. These include increased adrenaline, a hormone associated with intense emotion, and increased blood pressure.
