Communicating important information regarding fire safety is a must. In fact, health and safety signs are present to ensure that any viable information about fire prevention and safety will be communicated effectively to the public. The requirement is a standard set by law to ensure the well-being of individuals, particularly those who are working in food retail, manufacturing, construction or building, plant maintenance, catering and the like. Similarly, the use of signs like safety signs is also used to communicate and enforce safety requirements outside any working environment. Exit signs are a sample of these signs. Fire prevention and safety requirements allow businesses to make use of signs, as a way of protecting everyone within the building or premises. Protection of employees, workers, and occupants is a major concern, making it a top priority among employers and building owners. In times of emergencies, people need to have the proper guide and assistance, as they make their way towards escape routes and fire exits. There are also a number of standards and requirements that organizations have to comply with. Health and safety signs are enforced by means of various laws and regulations. In the past years, UK had been strict on enforcing and implementing these laws, giving huge weight on prioritizing fire safety and prevention. For instance, the Healthy and Safety Signs (Safety Signs and Signals) Regulation became a law in April 1996. The regulations aim to implement the European Safety Signs Directive, in support of using standardized signs across Europe, clearly stressing the significance of having clear and comprehensible signs. It is also important to note, that safety signs are meant to provide not only information but effective and clear messages, by means of definable text and symbols. In addition, exit signs have to be made in accordance with specified requirements including size and types of material used.
