6th Anniversary of Confucius Institute at the Free University of Berlin Celebrated [Source]Education Office of Chinese Embassy in Germany[Time]2012-07-06 14:53:38 May 24th, 2012 – The Confucius Institute at the Free University of Berlin celebrated its sixth anniversary at the Auditorium of the Free University of Berlin at 6:00pm which witnessed the participation of over 200 people from all walks of life. Prof. Dr. Leutner, Director of the CI and Head of the Sinology Department of the University, and Prof. Li Xiaoqi, Chinese Director of the CI and Professor of Peking University, delivered welcome speeches respectively where they recapped on the achievements of the CI in Chinese language teaching, cultural exchanges and academic cooperation in the past over six years and expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for their supports. Minister Counselor Jiang Feng from the Education Office of Chinese Embassy in Germany and Mdm. Loeschhorn, on behalf of the University, made remarks and offered congratulations to the CI. Jiang Feng noted that what the CI has achieved in the past six years can be firstly attributed to the sincere cooperation between the Free University of Berlin and Peking University as both of them take the CI as part of the overall cooperation between each other, providing a solid building block for the sound and stable development of the CI. In addition, the achievements are made possible thanks to the dedicated efforts of all staffers of the CI, especially the commitment of Yu-Dembski, the Executive Director of the CI. The CI brings delight to communication, enriches people’s lives and horizon and enhances friendship through colorful and active events. Jiang said with gratitude that his colleagues and he have learned a lot, made new friends by attending activities organized by the CI and he believed that much of the guests presented share the same feeling. When Prof. Li Xiaoqi delivered a speech in Chinese, Prof. Dr. Leutner interpreted into German at the site. The close cooperation between the two Directors greatly impressed the audience. Group photo of Prof. Li Xiaoqi and Prof. Dr. Leutner Later on, pianist Xie Ya’ou and sheng soloist Wu Wei living in Germany, and Xie Yashuangzi, a teacher of Shanghai Conservatory of Music who exclusively travelled to Germany for the event, staged a lively concert named “Impressionism and Chinese Music” for guests. The opening music “Folk Song” was jointly performed by the three, with two of them playing one piano. Together with sheng, a unique Chinese music instrument, the concert featured by a combination of Chinese and western elements, was made more pure and fresh. Then, Wu Wei played “Dragon Dance” he adapted. The light-hearted and jubilant atmosphere created by enthusiastic and sonorous sound attracted every one at the site; Xie Ya’ou’s solo Debussy enabled visitors to experience the western classics played by a Chinese artist and piano music “Impression of the South” by Xie Yashuangzi vividly reappeared the appeal and charisma of Miao nationality – a minority group in southwestern China; finally, the three artists played “Harmony”, a work of Prof. Xiang Min of Central Conservatory of Music, sicily dance music of French composer Gabrielle Faure and “Country Dance” of China’s Miao nationality. The exquisite performance and tacit coordination among the three performers won lasting applauses from the audience as they enjoyed the beautiful night amid excellent celebrations organized by the CI.
