Expedition 31 Commander Oleg Kononenko ceremonially handed command of the International Space Station to Russian cosmonaut Gennady Padalka. The two cosmonauts along with their four station crewmates were inside the Kibo laboratory for the crew handover. Expedition 31 ends early Sunday when Kononenko and Flight Engineers Don Pettit and Andre Kuipers undock in their Soyuz TMA-03M spacecraft. They will undock at 12:48 a.m. EDT and land in Kazakhstan at 4:14 a.m. Sunday (2:14 p.m. Kazakhstan time). At the time of undocking, Expedition 32 formally begins. NASA TV coverage of the undocking begins at 12:30 a.m. Deorbit and landing coverage begins at 3 a.m. and will continue until the crew is safely in the medical tent at the landing site in southern Kazakhstan. Remaining on the station with Padalka are Flight Engineers Joe Acaba and Sergei Revin. They are scheduled to stay in orbit until Sept. 17. The trio is awaiting three new crewmates to complete the six-member Expedition 32 crew. Expedition 32 Flight Engineers Suni Williams, Yuri Malenchenko and Aki Hoshide are due to arrive July 17 at 12:50 a.m. aboard the Soyuz TMA-05M spacecraft. Their launch is scheduled on July 14 at 10:40 p.m. from Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan. Williams will become Expedition 33 commander when Padalka, Acaba and Revin undock from the station in the Soyuz TMA-04M spacecraft in September.
