This news has been around for some time now that imported extra virgin olive oils are 'fakes'! To confirm this claim scientists went shopping at random in supermarkets and purchased some of the best known expensive imported brands of extra virgin olive oils for testing. After the test's they found most of the imported oils are stale, adulterated and fake; they failed to meet international standards for being labelled "extra virgin." This has been a problem for years! Food labeling has been an issue for many years. From every perspective there has been this failure by most governments to bring in and uphold a strict labeling law on food. While most government food administrations are sitting on their hands or twisting their thumbs, food manufacturers are having a free hand of putting on labels or into food and bottles whatever suits them. The deterrent effect of mandatory labeling, exposed by failure of government's legislation has become one of our health problems and there for a strong increase in illness is found across our nation. Cheaper oils being put in to the mix like sunflower seed oil, hazelnut soy and others, are destroying extra virgin olive oil quality. This adulterated olive oil is not only shipped off to different countries, there are also attempts to cover the tracks by mislabeling its country of origin. If government food administrations would do their job properly by enforcing the law of strict labeling as the origin, from which country the products are coming from and as well the date of manufacture, this situation could be avoided. The health benefits of pure extra virgin oils are almost endless! Good news is you don't have to wind up with adulterated, rancid oil in your kitchen, salad dressing or in your food. There are some olive oils independently certified of being 100% pure extra virgin oil products even locally grown and pressed. The only olive oil we should use must have freshness and purity.
