By Rutvi Ashar Photography: Courtesy ROHD An intriguing design approach allows Roland Helou Design (ROHD) to leave the viewer guessing about the size of this project, by clever implementation of imaginative interior solutions... Is this project a villa or a garden flat? This home will surprise you on how an interior design exercise can uplift a space. Roland Helou Design (ROHD) has managed to do exactly this in a home that appears to be larger than it actually is. Just looking at the project, one might wonder about the size of this home as the interior organically blends with the exterior. Located in Rabieh, Beirut’s most affluent suburb, on a hill side to the north of the city, the most attractive feature of this home is the garden space that is an extension of the interior spaces, not just physically, but also visually by the use of curtain glass. Splashes of bold colours act as strategic highlights in the otherwise subdued colour palette, establishing a cheery visual connect, leaving no room for dull corners. The detailing in every space is evident and the difference in materials and textures leads to a luxuriously balanced design. The shades of various finishes namely the hard wood flooring, onyx marble, upholstery and their reflections in the mirror cladding augment space, ultimately leading to a well balanced yet dazzling design idiom. Attention is paid to the littlest details giving life to the most silent corners that round up the narration of all the impressive, custom made pieces. A Kelly Hoppen dining table, a Natuzzi Sofa, an Ivano Redaelli bed and the black basalt built-in chimney or even the black lacquered wood lit bar are just a few of the impressive pieces that have made home here, each radiating elegance and dominance, making this home an opulent yet cozy space to reside in.
