Putting up and decorating Christmas trees remains a time honored tradition for many families and institutions, with care homes being no exception in this regard. Difficult to transport Another disadvantage or pitfall of having live Christmas trees is that transporting the tree to the care home and then disposing it once the festive season is over is not only a tedious and time consuming undertaking but is also quite messy. Chances are that its movement within the care home will be disruptive to the overall tranquility of the care home. Requires Maintenance Unlike artificial trees which require minimal if any maintenance at all, live trees have to be tended to on almost a daily basis so as to keep the tree looking neat, tidy and beautiful. In a care home, most care givers are usually quite busy, having their hands literally full as they attend to those who need their attention the most. At the same time, those staying in care homes may not have the energy or physical strength to maintain the real Christmas tree as required. This does imply that after a short while, the Christmas tree may be an eyesore and become more of a distraction and cause of annoyance and discomfort amongst care home inhabitants. Cause of Allergic reactions As earlier noted, live Christmas trees come with a wide variety of pests and parasites.
