Exploring La Clusaz Without Putting on Skis

Travel & Tourism
Conveniently close to both the charming town of Annecy and the mountain playground known as Chamonix sits La Clusaz, the small ski resort that welcomes numerous winter sports lovers every year. Coming from all over Europe, visitors return time and again because of the resort’s quality ski slopes and welcoming ambiance.

La Clusaz is not all about the skiing though, so here is our guide to what else it has to offer.

The Perfect Day Out in La Clusaz

Guided tours are definitely the best way to get a real feel for this quaint mountain town. All tours are run in the morning and begin at the village hall, from where you will be escorted through the streets learning about the history and what it is really like to live there. A morning out in the fresh mountain air is a great way to get you in the mood for exploring further.

The surrounding area is famous for its mountain passes or cols. The Col des Aravis is one of the most dramatic, and if you arrive in the early evening and you might be lucky enough to see the sun set over Mont Blanc.

Many people don’t realise that La Clusaz has a thriving art scene and if you enjoy dabbling with paints, head to Le Peintre du Coin, where you can indulge your love of acrylics, pastels, oils and wax. Nearby is the Atelier des Belettes, which is perfect if you have youngsters with you who have a passion for art. Here they can get involved in one-hour creative workshops and learn to paint on ceramics.

The options given above are not exhaustive. La Clusaz also has a cinema, lots of hiking opportunities and of course, plenty of winter sports.

The Perfect Way to Get to La Clusaz: By Plane

If you are planning to fly from the UK, you will probably choose to fly into Geneva, which is the most convenient airport for onward travel to La Clusaz. There are some excellent inexpensive direct flights with EasyJet from both London Gatwick and London Luton, and in an hour and a half you can be in Geneva. Most people visiting La Clusaz are going to be skiing at some point and probably have lots of equipment, so for smooth and stress free travel to your resort book one of the Geneva airport transfers in advance. You will be met at the airport by an experienced driver who will take care of you and your equipment. With no public transport links to the resort, private Geneva airport transfers are the best option for getting to your final destination.

The Perfect Way To Get to La Clusaz: By Train

If you prefer to travel by train, you will be pleased to know that you can leave London in the morning and be in Annecy, which is only 35 minutes from La Clusaz, the same afternoon. Train travel means no check-in delays, no luggage restrictions and shorter transfers to the resort than from Geneva airport. Transfers from the station in Annecy can also be pre-booked.

The Perfect Way to Get to La Clusaz: By Car

Of course, you can hire a car and drive yourself to La Clusaz. It only takes an hour from Geneva but you do have to cross the French-Swiss border and the road tolls are an added consideration. You will need to take the A40 or A41 but turn on the satnav and you won’t have a problem. If you are familiar with hiring cars abroad this might not faze you but on the other hand a plane and one of the range of Geneva airport transfers will take all the worry out of driving yourself.

So, to conclude, La Clusaz is a fabulous destination whether you are there to ski or not. There are lots of activities to keep all the non-skiers happy alongside plenty of mountain action for those that do want it. However you decide to get to the resort, Geneva airport transfers are the most convenient and efficient option for that final part of the journey.

Lukas Johannes is a driver for Shuttle Direct, the number one provider of shared and private airport transfers all over Europe and northern Africa. If you’re looking for affordable Geneva Airport transfers, Lukas and his colleagues can make sure that you and your luggage get to and from the airport swiftly and safely.
