One of the main benefits of floating shelves is the lack of external brackets. This often leads to customers asking how tricky the shelves are to install, and is often followed by a question about how much maintenance the shelves require afterwards. How difficult are floating shelves to install? Although we wish we could come and install your shelves ourselves; we’re a family run business with products that sell up and down the country, so we unfortunately can’t! We can’t be precise as to how tricky our shelves are to install. It depends on several things; your DIY skill, the method of installation you need to use and the amount/ shape of shelf that you have purchased. As a guideline, we recommend that you use two brackets for each shelf you install, with an extra bracket for each 50cm. For example, a 150cm shelf would have three brackets, a 200cm one would have four and so on. If you are in any doubt about installing your shelves, please contact a reliable tradesperson. Click through for detailed instructions on installing your shelves, based on wall type. How do I keep my shelves looking their best? We show our shelves a little love before we dispatch them to you. After they have been made (by hand, may we add), our shelves are coated with Danish Oil (a mixture of oils used to treat and protect wood), rubbed down and then given a final coat of finishing wax before we send them off. To maintain your shelf, to would advise you to occasionally coat it with Danish Oil, which is available in most DIY shops.
