Growing up, it’s natural to develop a love for some sort of hobby. That hobby then becomes something that you are naturally good at because you are willing to put forth more effort and passion to excel. When someone asks you what you want to be when you grow up, the most common answers are: a doctor, teacher, pilot, or own your own business. As a child, those dreams may seem easy to accomplish, yet they are so far away. Priorities change as life goes on and a young child grows into an inexperienced adolescent. When it comes time to go out and look for that first job, those dreams will either become a reality or completely change. Many young men and women start to develop a trade within their first job and find out what will be something to allow a successful future. The dreams of becoming a pilot or doctor quickly diminish when the realization of the length of school required and the amount of time that is actually available to spend with family. Becoming a Photographer Many women also have the dream to be a stay-at-home mom. Unfortunately, with today’s economy, both parents have to work at some point. As a mother, it is common for a woman to have a case of separation anxiety after giving birth to her children. Finding a way to stay at home while making an income becomes first on the priority list. What better way to be successful than to develop a photography business? Photography can be a trait that females feel they can use their artistic skills while being a successful businesswoman at the same time. Being a photographer in this world can be difficult unless you have a specialty to set you apart from other photographers. Most professional photographers develop a passion for lifestyle, family, newborn, and wedding sessions. The world is truly missing someone that has the ability to capture creative headshots. Creating the Headshot A headshot can be a difficult image to capture well. The reason for the shot will determine a variety of factors. If this is an image that is portraying a bold, carefree, and fun individual, then the creativity needs to be on point. A good photographer will know how to pose the client and be able to portray their best attributes. Bringing out the best in the client won’t be successful if the pictures are done without preparation during the photo shoot. There are many important factors that need to be figured out while doing trial shoots. It is much better to make an error on a trial session instead of risking losing potential clients due to lack of skill, preparation, and experience. Editing Images In addition to getting the perfect headshot, editing is what can really make or break your business. If you have done your research, then you will know the proper ways to capture the perfect image, whether that is by using natural light or lights in a studio. This can definitely set up a photographer for success because it makes editing an image that much easier. On the flip side, it can also really hinder your business because it will show a lack of editing ability. What is it that makes editing so much easier? It all reverts back to how many photos you take during a session. If you only have one photo to choose from, what if the subject's eyes are closed? What if the client doesn’t like that photo? The best way to begin the editing process is to make sure you have multiple images for the client to choose from. When you are the one being photographed, you become your own worst critic. A client will see multiple flaws that a photographer would have never noticed. Once they have chosen the images they would like to be edited, then you are on your way to edit some creative headshots.
