So the next time you are going out of town, consider leaving your dog with a good dog boarding kennel. They will keep the dog with them saving him the stress of a long train or airplane ride. He can stay amongst his fellow creatures and in a place which, unlike a hotel, is meant for him. Some kennels also offer dog training services which is an added advantage. He would receive more attention and care than he would have if he were home alone. And above all, these kennels have staff that are trained to spot any health problems that may arise. But how do you find a good dog boarding kennel? You can ask a friend, neighbor, veterinarian, animal shelter, or dog training expert for a recommendation. You can also check the Yellow Pages under "Kennels & Pet Boarding." Once you have compiled a list, it’s good to do a little background check. Some states require boarding kennel inspections. If your state does, ensure the kennel you are considering displays a certificate saying that they meet the mandated standards. After selecting a few kennels, check if they can accommodate your pet for specific dates and can address your pet's special needs, if any. If things look good so far, you can schedule a visit. While visiting check for things like how clean the facility is? How’s the smell? Is the staff caring? Is a comfortable temperature maintained? Is the light and ventilation proper? Do they provide resting boards and beddings to dogs? Developing a good relationship with a boarding kennel will make things a lot easier for your pet and you if the need for boarding arises.
