Once you have booked your weekend getaway to Barcelona, you don’t want to be worrying about transfers into the city itself. Luckily, with so many public transport alternatives, private transfers, and the option of a taxi from Barcelona Airport, you have plenty of choice. The journey to the centre of the city from the airport takes between 20 and 30 minutes, regardless of which method of transport you choose. Most public transport options take you to Plaça de Catalunya, which is a central point in the city. Buses, trains and public taxis are all reliable and efficient, but a private transfer is always a convenient and stress free option. Here is our guide to getting from Barcelona Airport to the city centre. Booking a Private Taxi from Barcelona Airport Booking a taxi in advance with a private transfer company is the ideal way of taking the stress out of the final leg of your journey, and with several excellent companies offering a competitive service, prices are always reasonable. Shuttle Direct, for example, will have a driver meet you at the arrivals gate, help you with your bags and take you direct to your final destination. A private transfer costs between £30 and £60, depending on the number of passengers and the type of vehicle required. Shared Airport Shuttles Barcelona airport shuttles can also be booked on a shared basis, which is cheaper, especially if you are travelling alone. This kind of transfer costs around £10 per person. Public Taxis A city taxi from Barcelona Airport is another convenient way to travel, particularly if you haven’t pre-booked a private transfer. Barcelona Taxis can be called on +34 93 303 3033, but there will be several waiting outside both terminals in the designated taxi ranks. The great thing about taxis is that no matter what time of night you arrive, there will always be one waiting. Taxis should cost in the region of €25.00 from T2 and €30.00 from T1 – however, be aware that prices will be very much dependent on traffic, which isn’t the case with pre-booked taxis, which offer you a set price. Taxis are black and yellow and run on a meter (a surcharge is added for airport pick-ups and drop-offs, and for travel on public holidays, but rates are clearly displayed). Aerobus and TMB Bus The Aerobus is an express bus service to the city centre from Barcelona Airport that runs every 5-10 minutes during the hours it operates. It can be picked up outside both terminals and heads straight to the city centre, with its main drop-off points being Plaça Espanya and Plaça de Catalunya. Tickets cost €5.90 for a single and €10.20 for a return, which is valid for 15 days. The TMB bus (number 46) operates between 04:50 and 23:50 and stops more frequently on its way to and from the airport than the Aerobus. The advantage of this bus is that you can use a T10 transport ticket. These tickets are valid on other buses as well as the metro. Night buses also operate from 21:55 to 04:45, but only depart from Terminal 1. A ticket costs €2.15 and a T10 ticket is valid on these journeys too. Trains The train is a reliable transport option into the city centre and the RENFE service runs every 30 minutes. There is a convenient shuttle bus from Terminal 1 to the station. The train journey takes 25 minutes and you can get off at Barcelona Sants, Passeig de Gràcia or Clot, which are all served by the metro. A T10 ticket can be purchased in the airport but if you have not already done this, you will need to buy one for the metro. Tickets to the centre of Barcelona cost €4.10. This option is cheaper than taking a taxi from Barcelona Airport for those travelling alone. Metro There is a metro stop at both terminals in the airport and the line you need is number 9. The ticket costs €4.50. Whether you decide to take a train, bus, private transfer, or a taxi from Barcelona Airport, you can look forward to a stress free, efficient, and organised last leg of your journey.
