Subaru is just your normal high school kid. He has no motivation to do anything in life, and makes his decisions based off how it feels in that moment. He is perfectly content being held up in his room playing video games until the break of dawn. One day, after leaving a convenience store, he looks up and the world he knows as home changes before his eyes. He is suddenly transported to a busy city with horse carriages and merchants as far as the eye can see. His gaming instincts quickly kick in as he describes the world before him as "medieval" and "fantasy" like. Instead of being scared, he is actually quite curious, probably because he keeps thinking of it as him being a protagonist in a game scenario. Through trial and error he finds that he speaks the same language as the people here, there are places for non-human only, and his money is worthless. He also is told that his clothes look like something out of this world. Frustrated by the lack of a "tutorial" and the absence of a beautiful maiden, he slumps to assess the situation in an alley. This proves to be a very bad move as three vulgar looking persons walk up to him and demand his items. Thinking maybe he has some sort of strength stat going for him, he clocks the first two with surprising ease, but falls whimpering on the ground when the third pulls a knife. Naturally, they beat him to a pulp. Luckily, a beautiful, silver haired girl comes to his aid, or rather convinces herself to help him. After awakening from his beating, Subaru realizes that his wounds are healed and the girl is still beside him, along with her weird, cat-like companion known as a familiar. After learning that he knows nothing of her stolen item, she ditches him. However, Subaru is persistent and manages to convince her that he would be of help in her investigation. One returned lost child and a lot of searching later, they find out that the thief is named Felt and she is from the slumps. In this time Subaru is able to learn a little bit about the silver beauty; he learns that her name is Satella and she is a half-elf, to which she is surprised he is not afraid, and her familiar is named Puck. After arriving at a store house that is a central hub for the trading of stolen goods that night, Subaru suggests he enter first alone, then he will notify Satella when he has found her stolen crest. Upon entering it is pitch black, so Subaru wanders farther in. He then notices a slumped figure on the ground before him, by the time he realized it is a dead man lying against the counter, it is too late. With a quick slice and a sadistically happy remark, the foe has Subaru on the ground bleeding out. He holds on just long enough to see his beautiful companion enter the house as well, and meet the same ill fate he was facing. Then he is suddenly in the town square again. Just like that! Subaru soon figures out that whenever he dies, he is taken back to a certain point in time after he had arrived in this fantasy world. For the time being, it was the moment he was standing in front of an item merchant who gets angry when he finds out Subaru is broke. He learns that all he had interacted with during the previous life have no knowledge of him, so the memories he made were for him alone to remember. This is where our story takes off! Subaru must not only find out why he has been summoned to this strange and fantasy-like world, but he must also use his new found "gift" to protect those in danger that he learns to care for.
