Sometimes we may think that worldwide travel is only for the rich, but did you know that many people are able to see the world because of travel competitions? Those contests you see advertised are not mistakes or scams designed to get your information without offering anything in return. Becoming a travel competition winner is a very real option if you put in a little time, get organised, and follow through with what’s required to claim the reward. I’ve put together some tips to get you started thinking about contests and how you can make travelling to some of the world’s most amazing places a reality. Finding the Best Contests The first step to becoming a travel competition winner will of course be to find out where the contests are! The easiest way to find the greatest number of travel sweepstakes is online. Start with a simple Google search for “travel contests” and “travel competitions” and see what pops up. Follow your search terms with the present year for more relevant search results. Next, use the same terms to search on all your favourite social media accounts. Many platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram are popular choices for companies to hold promotional contests, and many offer some really great prizes, including trips! Another, more traditional way of finding travel competitions is by attending trade shows. For example, a wine tasting show may have a promotion with the prize being a trip to a winery, or a recreational vehicle trade show may feature a competition in which the winner claims a free RV rental to drive across America. Look for travel shows in your area for an even better selection of contests that will bring you a step closer to becoming a travel competition winner. Getting Organised Now that you’ve done the work of finding out where all the great travel competitions are, it’s time to get organised. If you are really serious about this, I would suggest dedicating a yearly calendar as your contest calendar and writing in each competition’s closing date, as well as the date on which the winner will be announced. Using two different colours of pens or markers would be helpful in assigning one colour to the date you must submit your entry and the other to when you should be hearing back, should you be the travel competition winner! You may also want to print out the information and place it in a folder for future reference, especially if you were planning to come back to it later. How many contests have you come across and thought you would go back to, only to forget about it all together? Keep your folder nearby and don’t miss out on any opportunity to win. Enter! It may seem obvious, but you will not be a travel competition winner if you do not enter! If you see a contest that is very easy to enter and it’s for a prize you would love to win, go ahead and enter it right away - it will only take a minute or two. If the competition is going to take some careful consideration and a little more work to submit an entry, save it for later by bookmarking or printing out the information and marking the important dates into your calendar to ensure you don’t forget about it and miss an opportunity. Remember, you don’t have to be a millionaire to see the world. Many dedicate themselves to seeking out and entering travel competitions to help them reach their goals to travel more.
