Thanksgiving may be your last chance for a relaxing and fun getaway before the hectic holiday season sets in, so now's the time to make plans. From Las Vegas, your best option is a tour to the Grand Canyon, and with affordable bus tours, there's no excuse for not getting out there and doing something different this year. Vegas is the best place to take a Canyon tour because you'll find tours there for both the South Rim and the West Rim. The West Rim is a little over 100 miles from Vegas, and it is the closest rim. The South Rim is much farther away, and the ride there will take about 5 and one half hours when you go by bus. All the buses from Vegas, whether they go to the South Rim or the West Rim go right past the Hoover Dam, and your bus will make a quick stop so you can take some photos. West Rim Bus Tours The West Rim is known for fun and adventure. The standard tour is one that drives you to the Canyon and then brings you home later in the day. However, you can upgrade your tour to a package that includes exciting adventures according to your budget and interests. If you want to add some thrill to your adventure, then make sure you choose the Grand Canyon Skywalk VIP passes. These tickets give you priority access to the massive steel and glass viewing platform that hangs over the edge of the rim. You can walk 70 feet beyond the rim and look through the floor to the Canyon bottom 4000 feet below you. It's a fantastic experience and the VIP tickets will allow you to cut through any long lines. There are also helicopter tours that you can include in your package, and my personal favorite is a landing tour that goes from the top of the West Rim, all the way to the bottom, setting you down next to the Colorado River. You can even add a boat tour on to this, giving you the most comprehensive Canyon adventure. South Rim Bus Tours The West Rim is the most popular destination for tourists, but those willing to travel further to the South Rim will be rewarded by breathtaking scenery and unspoiled wilderness. The standard bus tour to the South Rim includes lunch, a guide, and about three hours to explore the area once your bus gets to the South Rim. There are plenty of key landmarks and lookout points, and there are plenty of great photo opportunities. Like the West Rim, you can also add a helicopter flight to your tour package. There's a 30-minute flight that will take you all the way to the North Rim, and I highly recommend it. You'll fly through the deepest and widest section of the Canyon, and it's worth it just to experience that moment. Holiday Tours Sell Out Fast Be sure to book your tour in advance because tours will fill up fast over the Thanksgiving holiday. Try to lock in your tour at least 72 hours in advance or when you book your hotel in Vegas. Buying your tour online gets you the lowest rate possible and when you buy your tour using your credit card, your seats are paid for and confirmed. Enjoy An Exciting Thanksgiving Don't spend Thanksgiving sleeping on the couch, make memories your family will remember by touring the Canyon instead.
