Air conditioner market in China was largely dominated by domestic companies for both types of air conditioners. Mitsubishi electric is the only foreign brand that has managed to gain ground in China domestic air conditioner market. High end washing machine with better user experience, large capacity and added features were targeted at urban middle class who have the ability to pay and use the washing machines. Over the year’s per capita income in major cities have increased drastically creating demand for products with superior quality and better user experience. Demand for double door refrigerator was mainly from tier 3 cities and villages where demand for cold storage volume is low compared to urban areas. Demand is low due to easy access to fresh consumables. Market for small screen size (less than 32 inches) television is almost negligible and the demand is mainly coming from commercial sector. Increase in viewership of video on demand has led to demand for smart television. Availability of large size smart TV at low prices has led to increased demand as user experience is enhanced in large screen television. Hypermarket and supermarket also play very significant role in promoting distribution of these appliances. Some major hypermarket and supermarkets operating in China and selling large appliances are Suning appliances Co. Ltd, Gome electrical appliances holding limited, Walmart China and several others. Online sales in China have recorded a very healthy growth rate in terms of sales in large appliances. Almost all major large appliances market has tied up with online platform to sell their products and services. TCL which is major player in North American market registered rise in sales volume in 2015. Growth was mainly driven by demand for expansion of national mainstream sales channel. The market for television is dominated by Skywort, Hisense and TCL. These three companies have also been the leader in 4K UHD TV as well as LCD television market space in China. Chinese people bought cheap fans in the summer. After the beginning of the 21st century, a growing number of Chinese people could afford air conditioners to keep rooms cool and comfortable. In recent years, international air conditioner brands gradually lost their market share in China. However, they make more profits through converter technique as well as selling core components and parts. This big potential market gives more places for Chinese domestic brands to grow and expand. Midea, Haier, Gree and Chigo are the major 4 Chinese domestic air conditioner producers.
