One of the many amenities that comes with buying one of the Pebble Creek homes for sale is the community’s location near so many regional parks and nature preserves. Its location in Goodyear, Arizona puts this retirement community within an hour’s drive of many of these parks and preserves, as well as being only minutes from the beautiful Agua Fria River. The community itself covers nearly 22,000 acres and has earned a reputation as being one of the most desirable retirement destinations in Arizona. Its proximity to so much natural beauty is certainly one of the reasons. Two nature areas just north of Pebble Creek are the Lake Pleasant Regional Park and the Agua Fria Wildlife Preserve. Lake Pleasant Regional Park Lake Pleasant, a 10,000-acre artificial reservoir, is the focal point of this regional park and one of the most important bodies of water in the Phoenix area. It was created by the building of the Waddell Dam on the Agua Fria River in 1927 and originally served as a private irrigation project. Today, Lake Pleasant serves the surrounding communities as a major water recreation center in addition to its importance as a reservoir that brings water from the Lower Colorado River into the region. The lake has a plethora of boat docks as well as beach access and has become a favorite destination for water and jet skiing, windsurfing, sailing, fishing, swimming, and scuba diving. The park covers over 23,000 acres and offers numerous activities such as hiking, camping, picnicking, and wildlife exploration. Agua Fria Wildlife Preserve The Agua Fria Wildlife Preserve sits above Lake Pleasant in the striking Agua Fria River Valley. Mesas to the east rise as high as 2,000 feet, providing secure nesting areas for many area birds such as raptors. For a few years now, a pair of bald eagles has also nested in the area and have given birth to at least eight eaglets. Bordering on the west are vertical limestone cliffs that rise up to 1,000 feet above the valley floor. At the top of this mesa is an ancient Indian village. Now that the Agua Fria River valley is about to become a wildlife preserve, the Parks Department plans on restricting vehicular access, conducting trash cleanups, and removing debris that has accumulated over several years. Yet, despite all of the human impact, the valley is truly stunning. Cottonwoods and willows line the banks of the river along which one can observe the tracks of desert mammals. In addition, a recent bird survey has identified more than 110 species. Being located not far from this spectacular nature area certainly make Pebble Creek homes for sale quite a bargain!
