There would be no doubt in anyone's mind who's got some vision about diets, and would have to agree that a vegetarian or vegan diet is much healthier than the average western world diet most of us are on. Not having processed meats and other products that poses some health risks is certainly a step in the right direction. On the other hand, when considering the total nutritional requirements for the body and what the body needs, being on a vegetarian or vegan diet there are some missing links appearing, something is missing! Plant-eaters can lower the risk of many health problems including cancer. Vegetables and fruits are rich in nutrition, antioxidants, all the important vitamins, minerals and a substantial amount of fiber which are all necessary to promote health. In contrast, our average diet is low in vegetables, fruits and high in starchier and fatty foods which have a greater risk of cholesterol, heart disease and many other health problems. Is a vegetarian or vegan diet as healthy as you think? The ones that are on a vegetarian or vegan diet are less likely to suffer from illness than the ones on a normal western world diet with their big meat-eating and take away counterparts. Although there is a vast difference between vegetarian and a vegan diet, being on any of those two diets doesn't mean they are necessarily getting all the valuable nutrition they need. The vegan diet is the most restricted one and is missing many nutritional benefits which can have health consequences later in life. The limitations of a vegetarian and vegan diet: The vegetarians do not eat meat, fish or poultry. Vegans, also being vegetarians, take it a step further, excluding all animal products - even dairy and eggs, or anything derived from animals. The problem with a paleo diet for vegetarian and vegan alike is, it is severely lacking in protein; this is why paleo diets are pretty poor substitutes for the real thing. You'll probably want to take a good multi vitamin so you don't become deficient in certain things you really only get from the products restricted to paleo diets. If using a substitute, for the best benefit is a multi-supplement in a liquid form for better absorption; it should as well include different fruits and or veggies, omega-3 and glucosamine for your daily intake. Such fundamentals in a perfect diet as fish and some meat for the most important omega-3 fatty acids or fish oil supplements, not getting enough omega 3 creates an important shortage. Omega 3 is most important for many health conditions such as heart disease, Alzheimer's, dementia and some mental conditions, and these are only some of them. Evidence based on eating meat for health reasons! Meat been eaten since the cave ages. Only in the last few decades meat been blamed for many diseases. Misunderstanding is one of the reasons because not all meats are the same. Meat wasn't any issue years ago when there were no or hardly any processed meats available. All stock feed for animals was natural, unprocessed, therefore natural fed meat is extremely healthy. Our body functions best by eating both, animal and plants, despite what some would have you believe. Unprocessed meat is incredibly nutritious: a 100 gram of raw beef has many vitamins and minerals such as iron, selenium, zinc, vitamin B12, B3, niacin, B6 plus protein. These are critical nutrients in particular the vitamin B12 which cannot be gotten from plants. It is also important to note that meat from grass-feed animals has a far higher percentage of omega-3 as meat from grain-fed animals. The message is: Do not get confused with processed and unprocessed meat (unprocessed is the good one). Unprocessed meat is perfectly healthy; there is no evidence that it contributes to cardiovascular disease or diabetes as is often claimed. Meat for bone and brain development which requires a certain level of dietary iron, vitamin B9 and B6 are found in animal products which are also important for healthy brain cell development.
