The excellent resort of Méribel is a magnet for party animals, attracting winter sports fanatics who like to burn the candle at both ends from all around the world (and especially Britain!). This helps to create an electric atmosphere under the stars at night and the parties carry on well into the early hours. These are a few of the top après spots to check out on your ski break in Méribel. Cocktails and Dreams Scott’s – Found in the heart of the action in the main square, Scott’s is a cool cocktail bar that has a chilled out atmosphere early on where you can relax on sofas. Once 2 for 1 on cocktails kicks off at 9pm, it becomes one of the best places for late night dancing. Barometer Bar – A great spot for a relaxed drink, Barometer Bar has a sophisticated setting and serves delicious cocktails and good local French wine along with cool music. Evolution – A slightly alternative destination to the thumping clubs and bars, Evolution offers a calm atmosphere where you can sit and enjoy a board game or watch TV with a cocktail, milkshake or homemade smoothie (perfect for hangovers!). Beers and Beats The Doron Pub – Head here early for a relaxed beer and a game of pool, but be warned that there is a shift around 10pm when it becomes one of the most popular drinking spots in Méribel. There is live music each night, plus the occasional themed party which always proves to be a memorable night. La Taverne – You will want to head to this cool pub early as it sells the cheapest beer in the resort during happy hour, which takes place between 8pm and 12am daily. This makes it a lively place where the drinks flow heavily, plus they also host gigs, have DJs playing and show all the big sporting events. Jack’s Bar – Those that have been on a ski break in Méribel before will be familiar with Jack’s, as it is one of the most popular drinking spots both in the afternoon and evening. This is in part due to its convenient location near the main lift station, but also because it shows loads of sport on the wide screen TVs and has excellent themed evenings and stand-up comedy. Dance ‘til Dawn O’Sullivan’s– Formerly known as Dicks T Bar, a legendary place in the après world, O’Sullivans is the premier spot for a late night party. It attracts famous bands and DJs to perform, stays open till 5am and has an incredible atmosphere every night. Le Loft – Located in La Chaudanne, Le Loft is known for its amazing sound system which this ensures that it is a popular place for late night dancing. They typically play classic Euro-pop which fills the dance floor, but you can also sit in the private booths for a more relaxed drink if you wish. Privilige – Last but not least, Privilige is a popular choice once the bars close around 1am. This funky underground club is the only late night place in Mottaret. How to Get There I recommend flying from London into Chambéry, which is approximately a 1 hour and 40-minute flight. You are then just an hour away from Méribel by road, with the most convenient way of reaching the resort being to jump in a pre-booked Shuttle Direct transfer as they can also take your gear for no added charge. The Après scene is a key part of any ski break in Méribel. These are a few of the best places to head after a day of shredding powder, but you are sure to find many other great spots for a fantastic evening. Lukas Johannes is a driver for Shuttle Direct, the number one provider of shared and private airport transfers all over Europe and northern Africa.
