This means that if you are a resident of Spain and you have a car in your name with a European plate that you intend to keep in the country, you will have one month in which to change to Spanish plates. Those intending to drive on Spanish roads are required to carry certain documents with them in their vehicle, including the ITV Card – an official document that relates to the technical inspection of the vehicle, the Inspección Técnica de Vehículos, or ITV – and the Permiso de Circulacion, which is similar to what Britons might call the ‘log book’. The latter contains information on the number plate and vehicle owner, among other details. One document that isn’t compulsory to carry with you in the car is the insurance policy, as the information is contained on a central computer.
