Some Interesting Facts About Temora

Travel & Tourism
Temora is really a town within the north-east from the Riverina section of New South Wales, 418 kilometres (260 mi) south-west from the state capital, Sydney. In the 2011 census the urban population of Temora was 3,874. The name "Temora" comes from a Celtic term, meaning "an eminence commanding a broad view."

Temora has been known as being the nicest town in New South Wales, following a number of mentions within the Sydney Morning Herald's Column 8, which arranged a bus visit to the city for Sydney readers in 2005.

Temora was named by John Donald McCansh. In September 1880 he told the Warwick Argus: "I took in the country for any sheep run in 1847, my sole companion being Valentine Lawler, who had been then lessee of the station ('Nimbi') on Cunningham Creek. We might not ascertain the native name from the place because there were no blacks about, and instead of provide it with an English name, I called it 'Temora', the native name of the property near that i lived some years previously in another area of the Colony. I gave the station the name specially since it was aboriginal and i also liked it. I have done not know during those times, nor for a long time afterwards, that Temora had been a name in Ossian’s poems." However, neither the Wiradjuri Dictionary (2010) nor the Macquarie Dictionary of Aboriginal Words (2006) list "temora" or any words much like it.

Temora is situated in North Eastern end from the Riverina region of NSW and is particularly area of the South West Slopes. Temora comes with an elevation of 302 metres (991 ft) above sea level. The country is flat to undulating. Towards the north of Temora lies the Narraburra Hills which incorporate the Boginderra Hills Nature Reserve.

Temora is situated roughly 90 kilometres (56 mi) north of Wagga Wagga. It really is situated around the Burley Griffin Way linking Canberra and Griffith as well as the Goldenfields Way which link Albury and Wagga Wagga towards the Newell Highway.
