Melanie Mooney, a senior at Munster High School in Munster, Indiana will receive $1,500 in scholarship funds for her essay on detailing her plan for how to remain focused on the road while driving. “Ms. Mooney’s essay truly encapsulated the spirit of the scholarship contest,” Attorney Abrahamson said, “While we received many other excellent submissions, hers stood high above the rest.” Mooney put together a checklist of rules to follow for making safe and smart driving decisions that she called the “BE SMART Distracted Driving Family Plan.” The list goes as follows: I WILL NOT text, call, or be on the weB I WILL recognize situations where I am not mentally prepared to drivE I WILL consider the consequences of my actionS I WILL drive first, then worry about an exaM I WILL focus on the now and not a later agendA I WILL NOT put myself or others in dangeR I WILL pay attention to surroundings and be alerT The firm is happy to provide financial help for such a bright and intelligent young person. The scholarship money will be a help to Mooney, who plans to study biology at Purdue University - West Lafayette in the fall. In addition to announcing the winner of their most recent scholarship contest, Abrahamson & Uiterwyk is very excited to announce the details for their new Distracted Driving Scholarship essay contest. The contest is open to high school seniors and college students who are residents of the United States. Those who enter the contest will be required to write an essay between 500 and 750 words on the topic of distracted driving. There will be one winner of the essay contest, who will receive a $1,500 scholarship that goes toward paying for the student’s tuition or school-related expenses. Students have until July 31, 2017 to submit an essay for consideration in the contest. After that date, members of Abrahamson & Uiterwyk will select the student who wrote the best essay as the winner. The selection will be made no later than August 15, 2017.
